Location and Accommodations

Julian, CA

Julian, California is a serene, getaway town, nestled in the Cuyamaca mountains just an hour east of San Diego, and known for their delectable apple pies and local wine. It’s perfect for visitors wishing to stay in the mountains, day-trip to nearby Anza Borrego Desert State Park, visit San Diego’s beaches or the many other attractions in or around California’s southernmost county.

Julian is an old gold mining town with a unique history and a great deal of charm. Camp Cedar Glen is just outside of the town, and is a family retreat center in the heart of the Volcan Mountain Preserve

JFFC is lucky enough to hold our annual camp at Camp Cedar Glen, immersing all camp goers in the oaks and pines of Julian.

Camp Cedar Glen

Camp Cedar Glen is a full-service (room & board) family retreat center. Both the area and the camp promote an easy-going atmosphere that encourages a joyful, relaxed focus on fun and music. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, the camp enjoys four seasons, yet is a short drive to many of the adventures and attractions found in the ever sunny San Diego, CA.

It offers a variety of accommodations, excellent family-style meals, and is the perfect setting for intimate classes, concerts, dances and jams. In addition to its great location and setting, camp facilities include a solar-heated swimming pool, an archery range, many hiking trails, indoor table games, a basketball court and a state-of-the-art climbing tower.

Camp Cedar Glen is well known for its quality, family-style meals. The camp’s head cook takes great pride in using only the best ingredients in every dish, going to great lengths to secure fresh vegetables and quality meats. Vegetarian meals are always available, with the ability to respond upon adequate notice to most dietary concerns (e.g., diabetics, gluten allergies). Starting with dinner after Wednesday’s registration and orientation, the camp will include three hearty meals and desserts the following three days, with coffee and snacks available around-the-clock. A full breakfast will be served the morning of the camp’s last day.

Accommodations: Cabin, Tent, RV or Inn

Those attending the Julian Family Fiddle Camp are encouraged to stay in one of the several cabins located on the grounds. Each cabin has shower and toilet facilities, as well as several rooms with dorm-style bunkbeds that can accommodate anywhere from 3 to 10 people per room.

For those preferring to stay in their own RV or pitch a tent, a special area near water and restrooms is set aside for this purpose. (Sorry, but hook-ups are quite limited, and while there may be some electricity available, RV’s nonetheless must be self-contained). Staying in the town of Julian is also an option, with the Julian Chamber of Commerce being a great resource for learning about the array of facilities found in and around this beautiful town.

Getting There

Julian is a popular mountain retreat that is frequented by locals and distant travelers alike. If coming from afar, many airlines fly in and out of the San Diego International Airport. Several shuttle services provide transportation to/from the airport, with WTT Transportation offering a special discount for fiddle campers (use “fiddle camp” when securing your reservation).

You can also rent a car from one of the many companies that provide this service. The map below is meant to help clarify the camp’s location, routes of travel and relative distances.
